

Ealing-born Sanjeev Bhaskar OBE, an English actor, comedian and television presenter, gained notoriety as performer for his BBC Two sketch comedy series Goodness Gracious Me, EastEnders and The Kumar’s at No.42, also became Chancellor of the University of Sussex. The University awarded him with a surprise honorary degree to acknowledge his enormous contribution to Sussex, this year marked the Winter graduation yesterday. In his inspirational speech attended by graduates and their parents, we urged students not to give up in life, citing his own experience when he attempted to enrol for Sussex University he was did not make it as he did not have enough marks, but eventually he was appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Sussex.
Vice Chancellor Professor Sasha Rosenell, praised the University for being “authentic, courageous.. sometimes outrageousm” during its six decades of history.
In the 1960s only 4 per cent of school leavers went to university, but University of Sussex actively encouraged non-traditional groups of students to apply including mature, working-class students and exiles. If you have a passion for education entering University should not be barrier for the pursuit of rewarding and sucessful future.
