India win their third T20 world title and becomes the first team to win on home soil. They choose the 19th over to introduce a sixth bowler, with part-time spinner Abhishek Sharma coming to bowl.

India dismissed Finn Allen for 9 in the third over. Tim Seifert hit 52 off 26 balls but Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman made single figure scores in the middle order as India dominated. Player of the Tournament, India’s Sanju Samson made 89 off 46 balls, Abhishek Sharma’s 21-ball 52 and Ishan Khan’s 54 from, 25. Jimmy Neesham took three wickets in the 16th over. Shivan Dube hit 24 from the last to ensure New Zealand’s reply was only brief.
New Zealand was also beaten by India in Dubai last year, and this defeat follows their near misses in the World Cup finals of 2015, 2019 and 2021.
Samson and Abhishek took 92 runs from the best powerplay ever seen at a World Cup in comparison, the Black Caps were 52-3 after their first six overs.
India were beaten by South Africa in the Super 8s stage but have responded brilliantly with three scores in excess of 250.
