Shubman Gill’s 269 for India helped them to amass 587 ao in the second Test at Edgbaston. In reply England’s Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope ( England’s centurions in the first test) and Zak Crawley all fell to leave England 77-3 at the close. Crawly wafted at Mohammed Siraj to offer another edge on 19, Harry Brook made 30 not out and finished alongside Joe Root  18. 

Earlier Gill complied the highest score by an India batter in England and the highest score by an Indian skipper anywhere in the world. Resuming on 114 from Day 1, Gill extended his partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (89)  to 203,  and put on 144 with Washington Sundar to drive home the advantage.
