Did you know how Coca-Cola was created in 1886 Atlanta Georgia, by a pharmacist named Dr. John Stith Pemberton, who was wounded in the American Civil War and addicted to morphine, began a quest to find a substitute for the problematic drug and started experimenting with flavoured syrup in his backyard to create a cure for headaches and a refreshing drink. He stirs coca leaves with kola nuts and voila caramel coloured drink. He takes his syrup to Jacob’s pharmacy add carbonated water and give the village people to try it, who declared as a magical drink.

Pemberton starts selling Coca-Cola for 5 cents

marketing as a medicinal drink as a tonic for common ailments. It becomes a fountain treat.

Scribbled in Spencerian script which used even today. The formula of Coca-Cola remains a trade secret, although a variety of reported recipes and experimental recreations have been published. The drink has inspired a gang of imitators and crated a whole classification of soft drink: colas.

ASA Griggs Chandler, a savvy businessman who propelled Coca Cola to new heights. By 1891 Chandler had full control of the company and started a massive advertising push plastering Coca Cola signs everywhere, including bill boards, newspapers, free calendars. Suddenly a local fizzy drink turns into a national craze and then a global one over a century later Coca Cola Icon is sipped in 206 countries, with consumers drinking more than 1.8 billion company beverage servings each day, recognised by its signature and familiar  sweet fizz not bad for a humble syrup.  Coca-Cola ranked No.94 in the 2024 Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by revenue. Based on Interbrand’s “best global brand” study of 2023, Coca-Cola was the world’s sixth most valuable brand. The Coca-Cola Company produces concentrate, which are then sold to licensed Coca-Cola bottlers throughout the world. The bottlers, who hold exclusive territory contracts with the company, produce the finished product in cans and bottles from the concentrate, in combination with filtered water and sweeteners. In some third world countries you could get a bottle of Coca-Cola in remote villages where there is a shortage of fresh drinking water. A typical 12-US-fluid-ounce (350ml) can contains 38 grams (1.3oz) of sugar in the form of high-fructose corn syrup in North America. The bottlers then sell, distribute, and merchandise Coca-Cola to retail stores, restaurants, and vending machines throughout the world. The Coca-Cola Company also sells concentrate for soda fountains of major restaurants and food service distributors. Born in pharmacist’s backyard.

Coca Cola is probably amongst if not number one of the say four most popular refreshments in the world and a mixer as well. Not counting tea and coffee it rides the highs with all its different labels including zero sugar and is internationally recognised. It is very interesting to know about its creator. It also has rivals the main one being Pepsi. Yes it has been recognised from its onset as a pick me up that has health benefits due to its carefully chosen ingredients. It has spawned advertisements artwork and promotions inlcuding some imaginatively designed bottles and cans. The story is fascinating. Coke is unbeaten by any other cold drink I can think of.
