The Night team left reception desk empty, call for help were ignored. Inadequate safety at the hotel enabled a miscreant knocking on their guest room doors and windows of the cabin crew of Air India leading to a sexual assualt last week.
On Thursday at Raddison Red Heathrow hotel an assailant entered a woman cabin crew’s room with the help of a card key when she was sleeping and sexually assualted her at 1:30am. Her cry for help triggered the occupants in adjacent room to intervene and nab the attacker. The intruder was arrested. The woman sustained injuries and was rushed to the local hospital. She was flown back to Mumbai on Saturday night. Her ordeal is discouraging others to join the profession.
Air India on Sunday said it would relocate its crew from London’s Raddison Red Hotel as the safety of their cabin crew staff was compromised. There was huge concern over colleagues being assigned the same hotel on the day after the incident. In one of the WhatsApp conversations a crew member of Air India said several complaints have been raised in the past about inadequate safety at the hotel, the reception desk being left unattended in the night and dimly lit corridors, falling on deaf ears. A post in Instagram which highlighted the incident said there were concerns among crew about msicreants knocking on their windows and doors and they were often forced to stack themselves against the hotel door for their safety.
Air India who confirmed the incident said ” We’re deeply anguished by an unlawful incident of intrusion at a hotel, operated by a major international chain, that affected one of our crew members. We are providing all possible support to our colleague and their broader team including professional counselling”.
