Dune 2
Dune2

Filmed mainly in Hungary, Italy Abu Dhabi and Africa, this sequel is based on
the book by Frank Herbert which was written in the 60’s. On scenery alone it is
enchanting, taking place almost entirely in the desert and the characterisations
of a team of stars fitting into the partly science fiction plot but also relying
heavily on reality as we know it is vast. Be ready to see all manner of costumes
and characters. There is a love theme which is always welcome when one sees
an epic though no spoilers on that. The “water of life” features which is a
mesmerising liquid that can prove poisonous so it is a bit of a misnomer, and the
allusions to and images of the sandworms is an integral part of the plot.
Returning and new stars, including Oscar nominee  Timothée
Chalamet  (“Wonka,” “Call Me by Your Name”),  Zendaya  (“Spider-Man: No
Way Home,” “Malcolm & Marie,” “Euphoria”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission:
Impossible – Dead Reckoning”), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Avengers: End
Game,” “Milk”), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (“Elvis,” “Once Upon A
Time…In Hollywood”), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (“Black Widow,” “Little
Women”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Thor: Love
and Thunder”), Oscar winner Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter,”
“Hairspray”),  Léa Seydoux  (the “James Bond” franchise and “Crimes of the
Future”),  Souheila Yacoub  (“The Braves,” “Climax”), with  Stellan
Skarsgård  (the “Mamma Mia!” films, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), with Oscar
nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), and Oscar
winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Being the Ricardos”).
“Dune: Part Two” explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites
with  Chani  and the  Fremen  while on a path of revenge against the conspirators
who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the
fate of the Known Universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he
can foresee. The religious context and allusions to the same are an integral part
of the plot.
A word about long films – fairly recent ones being The Irishman and Killers of
The Flower Moon:- if you are ready to spend a little longer in the cinema for
the same price as you would pay for a shorter film, you can prepare and enjoy.
As a writer, I am not sure why longer films have acquired popularity but you
definitely get more cinema miles for your money.
