German Chancellor Oalf Scholz’s flagship social reforms is realized. Germany legislated the consumption and possession of cannabis by allowing adults to publicly use upto 25 grammes of marijuana from April 1, and this is no April fool joke either.

Germany has gone further than their neighbor Netherlands, which is renowned for its relaxed approach to smoking weed, here the possession of 5g is still a criminal offence.
In Canada you can possess up to 30g of cannabis, is now liberal than Germany. In the US 24 states allow it for recreational personal use.
German lawmakers have voted to legalise consumption and possession of cannabis, but stopped short of turning the country into the world’s largest regulated market for the drug by licensing its wholesale cultivation and retail.
Germany’s reforms are criticized by opposition lawmakers vowing to challenge in court.
Karl lauterbach, German health minister, in a fractious debate in the Bundestag, attracted sharp criticism from Conservative and far-right lawmakers when he said, “ The legal situation cannot stay as it is, it is in no sense acceptable”. He said in the past year number of people aged 18-25 consuming marijuana had increased 100 per cent.

Germany has over 4.5 million regular users of the drug and existing laws criminalizing it were obsolete. The new law would definitely undercut criminal market and bring more educational resources to bear and increase penalties for selling the cannabis to under 18s, Lauterbach said.
More importantly a 2021 study b Heinrich Heine university of Dusseldorf concluded the German government could make up €3.4bn annually in additional tax revenues if it licensed and charged duty on the sale of cannabis.
According to the new law passed yesterday stipulates that cannabis can be grown at home for personal use up to three plants are permitted and from July 1 also clubs of up to 500 people.
