The King’s Speech

King Charles The Monarch’s historic address to the US Congress

“Mr Vice President, Mr Speaker, Members of Congress, representative of the American people across all states, territories cities and communities I would like to take this opportunity to express my particular gratitude to all for the great honour  of addressing this joint meeting of Congress and on behalf of the Queen and myself to thank the American people for welcoming us to the United States to mark this semi- Semiquincentennial year of Declaration of Independence.

As my Prime Minister said last month Ours is an indispensable partnership. The executive power is

Subject to checks and balances.” It was a Masterclass in soft diplomacy with which the King single- handedly re-stabilised our bilateral relationship.

The Atlantic Alliance is more important than ever” and he also described how we stood shoulder to shoulder with America through two world wars, the cold war and Afghanistan.

The King politely and diplomatically remined Congress that even Kings must obey the law, NATO was there for USA after 9/11, British Troops did fight in Afghanistan, Ukraine needs our help now, Executive power must be subject to checks and balances, Ice-caps are melting, America’s natural wonders need protecting.

As Oscar Wild said “We have really everything in common with United States accept of course the language” Magna Carta is cited in at least 160 supreme court cases in 1789 not at least the foundation of principle that executive power is subject to checks and balances.

“On this occasion I cannot help noticing the readjustment to the East Wing following your visit to the Windsor Castle last year. I’m sorry to say we British of course, made our own small attempt for redevelopment of real estate of the White House in 1814 and my family’s history remains in reflected in your maps which read rather like our Christmas card list across the ages North and South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, cites of Charleston a particular favourite of mine, obviously, Georgetown, and for that matter Georgia, Annapolis, as you mentioned further favourities Prince Williams County Williamsburg indeed you recently commented Mr President if it was not for United States European countries will be speaking German, dare I say, if it was not for us you will be speaking French. We followed the voyage of Artemis two or Artemis the second as my family and myself like to call her, with close attention. Now I know you have big plans for the Moon, Mr President, but I have actually checked the papers and I rather suspect that it is already part of the Common Wealth. Thank You Mr President and Mrs Trump. Thank you for your splendid dinner which may I say is a consider improvement on the Boston Tea Party.

King Charles used a state banquet at the White House to gently remind Donald Trump of an inconvenient little detail he is the head of state of Canada, the very country Trump keeps suggesting should become America’s 51st state in his speech. Charles also dropped references to the war of 1812 and the Seven Year’s War two historical chapters where things didn’t go entirely America’s way. The whole exchange was delivered with the kind of dry, smiling courtesy that only the British monarchy can really pull off. Britain’s secret diplomatic weapon turns out to be a King with a soft voice and long memory.”
