An age old fairytale charms, amuses and enchants at the London Coliseum.
Cinderella (La Cenerentola) English National Opera London Coliseum, St
Martin’s Lane, London WC2N September 27 – October 14 2025. Show running
time – 2 hrs 45 mins. One interval. Children under the age of five will not be
admitted.

Featured as taking place in current time London, this show is based on
Gioachino Rossini’s classic romantic opera. Cinderella and Don Ramiro are
encouraged, watched over and protected by a team of dramatic, colourful and
uplifting ancestral spirits.
The opera stars mezzo soprano Deepa Johnny as Angelina (Cinderella) and
tenor Aaron Godfrey-Mayes as Don Ramiro. Director- international opera
award nominated Julia Burbach, conductor – Yi-Chen Lin.
Humour, extravagant and lavish costumes and dresses – not to forget patent
shoes and other accessories – lots of bow ties to be seen – gives the
personalities and unexpected storylines a clear connection with the audience.
Add to that a stage set which includes revolving parts and a lift, and a balcony
and you’ve got a great piece of viewing material. Let me keep other stage
excitements to myself – and so you will have to go and see them for
yourselves.
If you’re not familiar with opera – google ENO – The Beginner’s Guide to Opera
and I would expect this particular production would be a good opera to “cut
your teeth” on. If however you are an opera aficionado, I can guarantee you
will be pleasantly surprised by this production in its topicality and fresh
approach to a story told many times in many forms.
It’s hard to write more acclaim for this fabulous, fresh, exciting and original
production. Bearing in mind the short run, if you want to see it, get your tickets
now and enjoy!
