Volcanic eruption near Sundhnuksgigar, north of village of Grindavik

A volcanic eruption has begun in Iceland’s southwestern peninsula, throwing up 50  meters of plumes of magma and ash. This is the fifth time since December an eruption has taken place in the highly volcanically active peninsula. Fissure is growing for more than 1.5 miles  at 12:00 local time near Sundhnuksgigar, north of the village of Grindavik, according to authorities. A complete evacuation of the Blue Lagoon, the geothermal spa and Iceland’s largest tourist attraction, as a precaution.  Four thousand residents of Grindavik were permanently evacuated in last November, before significant eruption began.
