Annamarie Dzendrowskyj – “Shadows of Perception” 28 March – 21 April 24 The Muse
Gallery 269 Portobello Road W11 1LR
The natural world is the central subject of the artist’s work and is drawn from imagery from
The Blue Mountains World Heritage Centre in Australia taken in 2020 a few months after
the bushfire season. The natural world is cherished and all imagery is about this. The
Artist’s inspiration was based on Junichiro Tanizaki’s “ In Praise of Shadows” – an essay
looking into the interpendence of darkness and light and saying that one cannot exist
without the other. Climate change is also an issue on this score.
Ranging from £550 to £950 each, these works reflect the artist examining the indeterminate
nature of “Ways of Seeing” and “Ways of Being”. The artist explores the tension between
figuration and abstraction, inviting the viewer to challenge their perception of time, place
and space.
