England’s tour of India ended in a massive defeat inside three days in the fifth Test in Dharmsala. Needing 259 to make the Home side bat again, England were all out for 195 to lose by an innings and 64 runs and hand India 4-1 series victory. England were 113 for 6 only Root’s 84 to coax run from the tail enders.
Bashir ended with his second five-wicket haul of the series as India were bowled out for 477.
England folded to off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who marked his 100 wicket with a 5-wicket haul for 77 runs. Duckett and Pope got out to horrible strokes, Crawley turned to leg slip, Ben Stokes defence was weak, while Ben Foakes got out slogging in between, Bairstow scored 39 off 31 before Kuldeep trapped him, only Root scoring 84.
This is England’s first series defeat under Stokes, their seventh loss in 12 Tests. England must turn their focus for defending T20 World Cup in June and the next Test with the West Indies at Lords in July.
James Anderson had Kuldeep Yadav caught behind the wicket to become the first bowler to take 700 wickets.
