Steve Wright had four decades on BBC Radio One and Radio Two

“Wrighty” had four decades on Radio One and Radio Two and also hosted
numerous Top of The Pops programmes. He once flew to New York and
booked into a hotel and listened to local radio stations to garner good material
and concepts for his own shows. His amazing sense of humour was popularly
regarded as “zany”.
Recently he had been on a weight loss journey, his heaviest weight having
been 18 stone and he was trying to achieve 12 stone. He was married for
fourteen years to Cyndi Robinson and the couple had two children – Tom and
Lucy. “Wrighty” was said to have been a multimillionaire. Tom is currently
working in a similar area to that of his late father – i.e. music and DJing.
Colleagues including Sara Cox paid tribute and played emotional songs to the
radio legend. Jo Whiley said “He was a master of his craft”. He was truly a
radio giant and a good friend to millions. Ex Radio 1 breakfast show DJ Chris
Evans said Steve was “the soundtrack to millions of our afternoons.”
“Nobody will ever come close to the length and breadth of the way he
encompassed all things entertainment, in his own highly original and light
hearted style” wrote Evans. “He was to afternoons as Sir Terry (Wogan) was to
breakfast.”
