
SLIM a Japanese Robot ( Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) has successfully touched down on the Moon despite problems with its solar power system. Japan became the fifth country to soft-land on Earth’s natural satellite, after the US, the Soviet Union, China and India.
Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) engineers and officials currently prioritising to repair he craft’ solar cells which currently will not generate electricity.
Hitoshi Kuninaka, vice president of Jaxa said “ the craft which carries an infrared camera is still sending data properly to us, which means our original objective of a soft landing was successful”.
In the past Jaxa has landed robots twice on asteroids.
