Scientist are hopeful that Wegovy, also known as semaglutide a drug used to treat obesity may also treat alcohol dependency after the publication of preliminary positive research. The result of small study with a series of case studies indicate the same findings.  Kyle Simmons, an associate professor of Oklahoma State University said if the link is proven it might become the most widely used addiction prevention medicine treatment ever. Richard and Simmons are authors of a study in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry that collated these reports. The latest study was possible because patients at Richard’s weight-loss clinic filled out forms detailing their alcohol use, because some other weight-loss interventions can lead to an increase in alcohol intake. O the 79 patient reported 6 reported worrying levels of drinking. After taking the drug, they all moved to more normal drinking levels. One woman reported as going from 20 on the self-reported drinking scale ( about a bottle and half of wine a night to a glass a night with bit more at the weekend. Two binge drinkers went down to 2 wine glasses per day.

David Nutt, Professor of neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College, London said it made sense that the drug reduced the appetite for alcohol as well as food probably a double Whammy.
