TALK IN CONVERSATION WITH DOP TANIA FREIMUTH RAINDANCE 31st FILM FESTIVAL LONDON
Presented by Canon
A winner of many awards for cinematography and also a published photographer streaming films on Sky, Player, Amazon Prime, and IPlayer etc and with exhibitions in Paris and London, Canon Ambassador Tania Freimuth was talking to her audience through Raindance on the tools she uses and her crafts she utilises to achieve mesmerising results.
Collaboration – Being given the space to offer up ideas – makes you feel more “proud” and to invest more. Like all in indie film – collaborate and keep friends with your colleagues.
Cinematography – Most tangible – Tania likes social realism with a documentary slant.
If you work hard when you are young, you’re laying the foundations for later. Tania knows as a hard working person, that there is no short cut to achieving results and what you put in early on in your career produces stunning effects years later. I am all in support of this. Life rarely presents short cuts for anybody in whatsoever genre they may be working in.
“Cyn” – film about Cynthia Lennon – John Lennon of The Beatles’ first wife. Look out for more on this film. John and Cynthia had a son – Julian, together also. I have met Julian. At the time he was working in the music bus and producing albums. Tania discussed camera techniques and lighting for this interesting and vital film. Look for it on the appropriate social media channels.
“Democratisation” has come to film. This is Tania’s opinion. This seems like a positive way of interpreting film today.
Tania has shot fashion shows, weddings and corporate events. She said, “You end up with a massive amount of skillsets”. Tania has kept herself in work by doing these things which require a talent with many aspects in film.
“Pitfall” Tania and her team looked at colours used by artist Paul Nash to decide on uses for them in their film. This is fascinating. Colours from a famous painter influenced the choice of shades which a group chose to make prominent in the end result of a project.
One person asked “Why are films so dark now?” In my opinion more of us should or might be asking this question.
Independent film is more important than ever now as it is the “voice of filmmakers”.
Start doing your filming, Figure out how you want to edit then continue. Don’t give up. Get a result and make your film and get it seen. Just keeping going on. AND ENJOY.
