Nadira Murrat talks

From Uzbekistan, Nadira when in her twenties,   ended up  for some time in Scotland. Her  father was a dermatologist and playwright, and her mother was an actress. Growing up, Nadira  spent a lot of time in the theatre outside school where she   witnessed a lot of behaviour that most young people would not have seen – possibly loving interludes etc in the theatre backstage.  When Russia got involved in policing Uzbekistan, everything changed and it turned her father to alcoholism. Nadira came to the UK  and did theatre courses including a lot of Shakespeare and then came to Raindance amd did very many short courses which helped her to convert her creativity into business.   She found the Raindance environment very welcoming and altruistic where nationality or ethnicity not to mention other issues did not pose any problems. She describes Raindance as having an “international spirit” where she got acceptance and met all kinds of personalities.

Nadira Murray produced WINNERS (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9673176/), which screened at Raindance in 2022 and won “Best UK Feature”. It subsequently won two awards at the BIFAs (Discovery Award and Breakthrough Producer Award), as well as prizes at other festivals including Edinburgh (where it won the Audience Award). It went on to be the official UK submission for the International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards (2023)

Nadira came to England aged 23 – 20 years ago. She left Uzbekistan as an exile.

Hope you enjoy watching WINNERS. Look for other work by this talented lady.
