Wimbledon Men’s final
Carlos Alcaraz (20) had finally beaten Novak Djokovic’s hold on the men’s singles at Wimbledon with a sensational victory, ending Djokovic’s amazing run of 45 straight wins on Wimbledon Centre Court, to herald a new era in men’s tennis with extraordinary talent
Spaniard’s second major title in 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win following his last year’s US Open win. It is first time since 2002, before Alcaraz was born that the Wimbledon men’s title has been won by some body other than Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray.
After losing the first set 6-1, Alcaraz, 20, came back to win a nail-biting five-set match, amid Djokovic, 36, who lost his temper and smashed a racket against the net post.
Djokovic (36) has won seven Wimbledon men’s titles, including the past four. Djokovic was booed on the return to court having left briefly after losing the third set. Having lost the third game of the deciding set to fall 2-1 behind, he broke his racket by smashing it against the net post.
Alcaraz praised Djokovic saying “ I started playing tennis watching you. When I was born you were already winning tournaments.
Novak Dojokovic, lost his match while bidding for his 24th Grand Slam title. Dojokovic the eldest of three boys, caught glimpse of tennis when a respected amateur tennis coach, Jelena Gencic, who died of liver cancer in 2013, started a clinic on the courts opposite their family’s pizza restaurant in the summer of 1993, six-year-old Novak was there like a shot, watching. Genic asked if he wanted to join a session and went on to play a remarkable role in Djokovic’s development, teaching him not only tennis but how to become a world citizen. She claims to have told his parents on the first day that they had “a golden child” whom she wanted to coach. She said that while her young student’s motor skills were immediately apparent, what struck her most was that his ability to focus on what she said was vastly superior to most kids of his age.

Raised in the aftermath of Yugoslavias’s chaotic breakup, his loyalty to his family is strong as Djokovic has never forgotten his father had knives pressed to his throat as he struggled to pay back the loans taken out to support his son’s tennis career. Djokovic won his first Grand Slam title, the 2008 Australian Open, when he was just 20, but following three years he could not dislodge Federer and Nadal from the top two spots. In 2010, when an alternative medical practitioner diagnosed him with an intolerance for dairy and gluten which prompted him change his diet and by 2011 he was ready to take the tennis world by storm. He has been the most consistent player ever since. He resolutely refused surgery on an elbow problem in 2016, preferring to let it heal naturally. It cost him six months of competition and he still required surgery. After Covid vaccine was developed he was determined not to take a drug whose risks he felt were not sufficiently known. He was cavaler about safety in an exhibition tournament he organized in Serbia and Coratia in July 2020. He ended up getting Covid himself and infecting others. Last year when a jab became mandatory to enter Australia and the US, he stuck to his principles and missed the Australian and US Opens.
He struggled to get his fans to love him.
