England Won by 3 wickets The Third Ashes Test at Headingly England won by 3 wickets, under bat-friendly blue skies and bowl-friendly cloud after they kept their Ashes hope alive.Harry Brook’s 75 took them within 21 of victory, after talisman Ben Stokes fell for 13 following lunch on day four with 90 still needed. Brook put on 59 with Woakes before top edging a cut off Mitchell Starc who almost won the series for Australia with 5-78. But Wood hit Pat Cummins for a six and thrashed Starc for four to instill jubilation in the stands. With four needed Wood was dropped by Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey before Woakes finished unbeaten on 32 slashed the winning runs. Australia leads the series 2-1 with two tests to play. The fourth Test at Old Trafford starts on Wednesday 19 July. Although England dropped several catches, but found themselves within a series saving win as Wood takes 5-34. |
