A plane carrying 181 passengers from Bangkok in Thailand, has crashed at Muan International Airport in south west South Korea, killing 177 people, according to their fire service.

The aircraft came off the runway and crashed into a wall as the landing gear malfunctioned, an official said.

Only one passenger and a flight attendant were rescued alive from the crash site.

Jeju Air flight 7C 2216, Boeing 737-800 from Bangkok was carrying 175 passengers and six crew when disaster struck at the airport in Muan county, just after 9 a.m. local time Sunday (7 p.m. ET Saturday).

 The aircraft skidded off the runway and crashed  into a wall, before part of it bursts into flames.

Eighty Firefighters in 30 fire trucks used water cannons to extinguish the blazing wreckage of the aircraft. Several parts of the aircraft were also seen strewn across the runway and an earthen embankment. Emergency services are still  attempting to to rescue passengers in the tail section according to officials. Black box have been recovered as investigation into crash begins.
