NATIONAL SMILE DAY – a piece of writing for AWL for May 31 2024 by Penny Nair Price
In 1963 Harvey Ball wanted to devote a day to genuine smiles and acts of kindness. He is the earliest known inventor of the popular smiley face emoji and in 1964 got paid just forty nine dollars for his smiley face design – a design which went on to permeate the whole world. Harvey was born on 10 July 1921
and lived till 12 April 2001 and was born and raised in Worcester,
Massachusetts. He clearly did not own the copyright to his design.
Seven ways to smile easily:-
1) Engage in doing things that make you happy – eating what you like,
drinking what you like, talking to who you like.
2) Giving to charity – be it books, clothes, or money but ensure they are
genuine.
3) Pamper yourself – scented soap, face masks, pedicure or manicure,
massage.
4) Change your will, (question mark question mark)??
5) Arrange to go out with and meet friends more often and make new
friends…in association with CALM – Campaign Against Living
Miserably.
6) Deal with people who bully you. Make these dealings well thought out
and diplomatic ….please!!
7) And most of all be KIND even if it IS a struggle. Last advice but definitely not least. You can privately smile about it later.
A smile is a frown turned upside down
A smile on your face is like wearing a crown
Take a positive attitude and you will beguile
Make sure your mouth is much more agile!
Because it cheers us up if you seem happy of that there’s no denial
To walk with a grin on your face is like running a mile
And only the grumpy it will seem to rile
Then make some new friends or talk to old ones in a positive way for a while.
AND for those who say smiling faces tell lies –
Smile and be kind and give them a welcome Surprise!
Cheers! HAPPY DAYS!
