The main thing I did not like about this film was smashing baby dolls heads up at the beginning – not Barbie dolls – BABY dolls. Clearly Barbie manufacturers Mattel were in on the joke with this film as their own firm were involved in this rather unusual story and they rely on sales for their business. The saga unfolds that Barbie ladies want to run their own lives and are not always on good relations with Kens – another name for an iconic doll who is wholly compatible with the Barbie icon. It was tongue in cheek, sarcastic and in parts sinister but all under the umbrella of FUNNY. Good marks must be awardes for several things – its originality, its comedy value, its feminist value and its entertainment value. But at the end of the day Barbie is a cliche and some groups apparently especially Muslim groups object to the fact children want to be super slender and yet have curvacious waists and cute boobs and hips and long legs many times which do not correlate with the natural body definiation of a lot of girls and ladies. Still – if you havent seen it – see it for its value as a ground breaking sometimes dark irreverent comedy. ENJOY
