Apple poaches AI staff from Google

Apple, the $2.7tn tech company, has poached dozens of AI expert staff from Google  to set up a secretive European laboratory, “Vision Lab”,  in Zurich for developing AI models for AI smartphones. Apple even acquired two local AI start-ups – Virtual Reality group FaceShift and image recognition company Fashwell, to power products such as Open AI’s ChatGPT chatpot. Boeing loses £285m in the first Quarter

Boeing reported a net loss of £285m ($355m) in the first quarter amid a critical crisis sparked by a mid-air blowout of one of its planes in January. The US plane maker said production on its 737 programme has slowed to below 38 aircraft per month,  as revenue dipped to eight per cent to £13.3bn ($16.6bn). Global positioning System signals are being jammed using a device that emits radio frequency signals on the same frequencies used by GPS satellites. These interfering signals being sent by the GPS satellites, rendering GPS receivers within the range of the jammer unable to accurately determine their position, speed or time. Indian Premier League (IPL), the world’s richest cricket tournament, yet again unveiled another talent in IPL2024,  Mayank Yadav who is turning the dial on speed guns. The 21-year-old lanky bowler from Delhi made his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants against Punjab Kings in March by displaying a terrific spell of fast bowling, his fastest clocking  96mph (155.8km/h) and won the man-of-the-match on debut.  In the next game Yadav bettered himself with  a  97mph (156.7km/h) against Royal Challengers Bangalore. A draft report reveals that the Post Office spent £100m  fighting sub-postmasters in court despite knowing its defence was untrue. The Post Office was shown evidence by 2017 that losses could be due to errors in the Horizon IT system or remote tampering, but kept arguing in the Bates Vs Post Office Ltd case that theft or mistakes by sub-postmasters must be to blame. India which has two deep-sea exploration licences in the Indian Ocean, has applied for two more amid increasing competition between major global powers to secure critical minerals including cobalt, nickel, copper and manganese that lie thousands of meters below the surface of oceans which could hold key to a cleaner future.
