Emergency landing for Air India Boeing 777 in Siberia

An Air India passenger Boeing 777 aircraft AI-183 flying from New Delhi to San Francisco was forced to land in the Russian region of Siberia at the Krasnoyarsk International Airport, on 18th July 2024, after the crew detected a potential issue in the cargo hold area, after smoke detectors were activated, according to Air India, in its second such incident on the route in just over a year. Nationwide’s £2.9bn takeover of Virgin Money

Over 600, 000 voters gave Nationwide’s board their backing in yesterday’s AGM,  of the £2.9bn takeover of Virgin Money, including the board’s re-election and directors’ pay packages receiving approvals of about 95  per cent or more. Nationwide’s CEO Debbie Crosbie’s maximum long-term bonus to £3.4mn.  Yesterday’s meeting which took place online was open to Nationwide’s 16 million members, as customers who have a current or savings account or a mortgage who owns the building society rather than shareholders. Kakao founder Brian Kim arrest warrant

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office said yesterday that it asked a judge to issue a warrant for Brian Kim (Kim Beom-su), the founder of internet giant Kakao. Financial regulators have accused Kakao executives of buying 240bn ( $178mn) of SM Entertainment shares to undermine a tender offer from rival bidder and K-pop agency Hybe. Kakao’s chief investment officer Bae Jae-hyun was arrested in October last year, bae has denied any wrongdoing. Pound hits $1.30 amid global market jitters

The Sterling Pound hit its highest level against the dollar in a year on Wednesday as investors bet on UK interest rates staying higher for longer. The data reveal the rate of inflation was proving more stubborn than expected by some analysts which prompted traders to cut bets on an easing of rates in August, and sent the pound above $1.30 for the first time since last July. Carlos Alcaraz beats  Novak Djokovic to retain Wimbledon title

Carlos Alcaraz powers to victory after beating Novak Djokovic to retain Wimbledon Singles title. The Spaniard dominated most of the match and demolished Djokovic within three sets 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to win. Alcaraz was presented with the trophy by the Princess of Wales and said “ It’s a dream for me winning this trophy”. Djokovic was denied  for the second year  to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s titles. Alcaraz celebrated a 14th consecutive win at Wimbledon and the French Open in the same year.
