India beat Pakistan in their highly anticipated meeting and most lucrative fixture in the world game at  Colombo by 61 runs, their ninth successive wins in completed matches to confirm their place in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup.

The match between India and Pakistan took place after Pakistan government ended its order for boycott. Rival captains did not shake hands at toss nor any exchanges between the players after the final play.

India posted 175-7 with Ishan Kishan top-scoring 77 from 40 balls and Saim taking 3-25. Pakistan were bowled out for 114 with Hardik, Bumrah, Axar and Chakravarthy taking two wickets apiece, despite their fielders dropping three catches. On a tricky pitch co-hosts defied Pakistan’s plethora of spinners. Hardik Pandya took a wicket in the first over of the chase and Jasprit Bumrah two in the second to confirm the result. 

Now Pakistan must beat Namibia on Wednesday to guarantee their place in the Super 8s.
